About the BookIn 1928, soot from the local mills and music from speakeasies linger in the Pittsburgh air. When the manager of The Kelly Club is found dead, nightclub singer Vera Pembroke is thrust into peril. As the only witness to the crime, she’s sentenced to hide away in the Allegheny Forest with a stuffy police sergeant as her guardian. Sergeant Mick Dinelo harbors a burning hatred for Pittsburgh’s underworld after the devastation it left on his life—and heart. He should be out exposing the culpable gangsters rather than tending to the impetuous woman who defies his every effort to keep her safe. Mick and Vera must set aside their differences to solve the murder that someone wants to keep buried beneath the soot of Steel City. About the AuthorAs much as I'd love to occupy this space gushing about my fanatical penchant for all things classic movies, I probably should mention that I'm an award-winning Christian romance writer. I hope to inspire the mind and refresh the soul with words infused with faith and heart. Because I could never resist a good mystery, suspense and intrigue routinely sneak into my stories. My work is represented by Julie Gwinn from the Seymour Agency. I currently enjoy life with my husband and two children. ReviewAuthor Rachel Scott McDaniel has done it again. In her second novel, The Red Canary, McDaniel brings to life the time of the speakeasies and night clubs, as well as a time of gangsters and crime. This spine tingling mystery-suspense novel will keep readers on the edge of their seats as they way to see what happens next. The author has definitely done her homework in the research department as the Roaring 20’s comes to life from the pages. Along with the suspenseful twists and turns within the pages of the story, the readers will fall in love with the exciting and enthralling main characters, a night club singer and a cop and will enjoy the sizzling chemistry of their romance within this dazzling historical 20’s story. The banter within the story, combined with the many plot twists and turns, will keep readers engaged wanting more. This is an excellent story that comes highly recommended.

I am definitely interested! I love reading well-researched fiction set in the 1920s. Thanks for the enthusiastic recommendation.
