Hohenstein by Didi Lawson
5/29/2015
Anything but a typical aristocrat, young Baroness Marie-Louise is not afraid to roll up her sleeves and get to work, especially when it comes to saving her ancestral estate. Determined to shake loose the shackles of propriety and gain the warm family life her upbringing denied her, she has vowed to marry a man of lower rank. Blue-bloods need not apply.
But when she is forced to turn to a childhood friend for assistance, the handsome, debonair count may prove a temptation impossible to resist. Marie-Louise soon finds herself caught between the comfort of a middle-class doctor and the passion of a nobleman, with the future of her childhood home at stake.

Didi Lawson exchanged her town car for a pick-up truck and learned to operate a tractor when she and her husband moved from Arizona to a farm in Missouri where she now weaves her tales. Her love for writing started early in life when she entertained her friends with her stories, won prizes for her essays in high school, and wrote road shows and poems for the youth group in her church. She enjoys the outdoors, her children and ten grandchildren, and keeps an active social calendar. Connect with Didi on: FACEBOOK & GOODREADS
This is a fun, well-written novel, taking place in Germany. German characters and setting make this novel enjoyable and different. Filled with mishaps, adventure, relationships, and romance, Didi Lawson’s first novel is a hit. Her characters are well developed and easy to relate to. The aristocratic point of view is both intriguing and entertaining, as Lawson shows how Marie-Louise attempts to act her part as baroness while adapting to the new and modern world. I would recommend this novel to any historical romance reader.

Ginny agrees, even when she learns her escort will be her grandaunts nephew Sir Anthony. Along the way, Ginny’s abigail becomes ill and some highway men steal their carriage. Finally rescued along the roadside by Lord and Lady Barrington and their daughter Lucinda, they find they must stay at the Barrington’s for a fortnight while Ginny’s maid heals from the chicken pox, as well as to ensure that all those at the house do not have the chicken pox and will not spread the illness. Ginny detests Sir Anthony but seems to be falling in love with him. Lucinda is in love with Lord Avery, also visiting as a stranded guest, but longs for excitement and adventure, as due to previously having the chicken pox, she missed her coming out ball. Will each girl get the man she loves or be destined to marry the wrong man due to some confusions that take place during their confinement? Review Well-written with high-spirited characters, this novel will catch the reader’s attention from page one. This regency novel will have the reader laughing at each misfortune and exciting event, as readers compare Ginny to that of Elizabeth Bennett and Sir Anthony to that of Mr. Darcy in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Set with regency England as the backdrop, readers will be wanting more from this best-selling, award winning regency romance author. Meanwhile, Meredyth, dwelling too much on the past, tries to avoid falling for her best friend, Lawry Hampton…for why would he ever want her? They spend much time together, having a similar interest in caring for the needs of orphaned children. When Lawry tells Meredyth about starting an orphanage in Washington, an “accidental” kiss takes place, making things awkward between them. Meredyth has her own love of orphans as she and Lawry’s younger sister have been teaching at a school for sponsored orphans. One day they even rescue an orphan, Wynne, from freezing on the streets. This draws Lawry and Meredith closer than ever. News that Vance Everstone has married reaches Meredyth and her friends and family. Thinking she is free from Vance, she allows herself to dote in Lawry’s affections. But a few weeks later, Meredyth is informed that Vance is now widowed and will be coming home to marry her. A past mistake tying her to one man, but in love with another… Will Meredyth marry based on old ties or follow her heart and marry for love? Review Dawn Crandall has done it again. From the first page, this novel will capture readers’ attention. This book continues the story of reader-related characters Meredyth Summercourt, Vance Everstone, and Lawry Hampton, mentioned in her previous novel, The Hesitant Heiress, as they learn from past mistakes and move forward with life. Well crafted, and beautifully written, this novel entices the reader into not wanting to put it down through its beautiful settings and personable characters. I would recommend this novel to readers who enjoy historical romance with an inspirational twist. Series: The Everstone Chronicles Genre: historical fiction; Christian fiction; romance; inspirational Literary Awards: Genesis Contest Nominee Publisher: Whitaker House Publication Date: November 1, 2014 Number of pages: 319, kindle edition Other books in this series: 1-The Hesitant Heiress 3-The Captive Imposter Summary At age thirty, although not beautiful but kind hearted, Eleanor Braddock believes she has lost her chance of marriage. This historical novel, deeply researched, brings to life both historical events and characters as well as contributions from her imagination of what life must have been like. This tale allows readers a glimpse of high society, as well as a woman who knows her own mind and what she wants. I would recommend this novel to those who love historical fiction with a touch of romance.
