Unforgettable Love -- Elizabeth Johns
6/26/2018
Moon and Stars by Elizabeth Johns Lady Charlotte Stanton was officially on the shelf. Her first offer to be a chaperone had sealed her fate at the advanced age of eight-and-twenty. Yet, one magical evening a mysterious gentleman took pity on her and danced with her clandestinely under the stars. He refused to tell her who he was—other than unsuitable. It has ruined her peaceful existence as an aging spinster. Sir David Douglas, known to many as Captain Deuce the infamous smuggler, regardless of having changed his ways and made his fortune away in the Indies. His past was destined to follow him forever. Despite helping bring down a high level smuggling ring, the King wants him to do more to earn his pardon. Reluctantly, he is forced back into the dark trade of smuggling once again. As Sir David struggles to gain his freedom, Lady Charlotte tries to unravel his mystery and help him. But will she find her happily ever after or will she be caught up in the sins of his past?
“Sometimes I think I have more in common with the moon and the stars than Polite Society,” a deep, baritone voice said from behind her, as if the man had heard her thoughts. Charlotte managed not to flinch. She was unused to anyone seeking her company in dark places. “Yes, I was brought up amongst the ton, yet it is not often comfortable,” she replied, still looking at the night sky. “That is the last word I would use for it,” he said as he came to stand next to her. He was so close she felt warmth radiating from him and smelt his scent of spice and pine. She was afraid to turn and look. She did not wish to ruin the moment with reality, yet the arm of his coat appeared to be well made, and his hands appeared to be strong. They stood there in silent kinship, listening to the sounds of laughter and dancing coming from the ballroom. “Would you care to dance?” Charlotte did not answer. This man must be someone new in Town, someone who knew not who she was, or could not see her clearly in the moonlight. What did it matter? It was only a dance. One dance would change nothing. She held her hand out to him and finally allowed herself to look up. “Have we been introduced?” she asked, annoyed at her inanity. She had never before seen this man, of that she was certain. His light grey eyes twinkled in the moonlight, and they were looking at her—her!—flirtatiously. Crinkles formed at the edges of his eyes, indicating an experience and maturity that made him more handsome when he smiled. It was devilish cruel that men became more striking with age. “You know very well we have not,” he answered. He pulled her close—too close—and began to twirl her around. The moment was too intimate for mere words. Charlotte felt light and dainty for the first time ever as this man spun her in his arms. She must be dreaming. It was a heady, delicious feeling as her pulse raced and her insides quivered. When the music ceased, they stood there still, retaining the position of the dance as their breathing slowed. Charlotte grew self-conscious as the man studied her. “Am I to know your name?” she whispered. He took her hand and brought it to his lips, sending shivers through her. “Some things are better left unspoken, my lady.” “I loved everything about this story. Every woman needs to meet a man who wants her just the way she is. Despite the struggles and self doubt, despite the familial opposition, despite the outside forces and ever present danger from sinister forces - our dear couple finally triumphs.” “Elizabeth Johns writes lovely, intricate Regency tales filled with angst, longing, tragedy and triumph. She does not pander with superfluous and gratuitous sex scenes. Yet her stories are romantic and satisfying. I highly recommend this series and all of Johns' books if you want to be transported and escape this time period to the land of happily ever after. I cannot wait for the next one!” Author Elizabeth Johns National bestselling author Elizabeth Johns was first an avid reader, though she was a reluctant convert. It was Jane Austen's clever wit and unique turn of phrase that hooked Johns when she was "forced" to read Pride and Prejudice for a school assignment. She began writing when she ran out of her favorite author's books and decided to try her hand at crafting a Regency romance novel. Her journey into publishing began with the release of Surrender the Past, book one of the Loring-Abbott Series. Johns makes no pretensions to Austen's wit but hopes readers will perhaps laugh and find some enjoyment in her writing. Johns attributes much of her inspiration to her mother, a retired English teacher. During their last summer together, Johns would sit on the porch swing and read her stories to her mother, who encouraged her to continue writing. Busy with multiple careers, including a professional job in the medical field, author and mother of small children, Johns squeezes in time for reading whenever possible.
Unforgettable Love -- Shanna Hatfield

Rose by Shanna Hatfield
FOUND: Old-fashioned letter in a bottle on the beach… Now what’s he supposed to do with it? Tanner Thomas has no interest in contacting the woman who wrote a heartfelt, hopelessly romantic letter his mother found in a bottle on the beach. So why won’t thoughts of her stop tormenting him? Desperate to get her out of his mind once and for all, he makes a surprise trip to meet her, completely unprepared to fall in love with a stranger he meets on the beach. Read for FREE with KINDLE UNLIMITED Excerpt 1: To the Man of My Dreams, A crazy dare from my even crazier friends is the reason you hold this note in your hands. Under normal circumstances, I would not engage in something as undeniably foolish and utterly ridiculous as writing a letter to a man I will likely never meet. In truth, I am not convinced the man of my dreams exists. You see, I once gave away my heart — my whole heart. The boy I gave it to (for one such as he most assuredly cannot be referred to as a man) tossed it aside one stormy winter day much as one might discard an empty latte cup from Starbucks. After thoughtful speculation, I concluded he was incapable of offering or accepting real love. He owns no respect for love or what it encompasses, what it means. Love is one of the deepest, most essential human needs — like crisp, clean air to breathe, or cool, refreshing water to drink, or even a piece of rich, decadent chocolate. (Chocolate is a need and if you do not recognize it as such, you may as well tuck this letter back inside the bottle and forget you ever found it.) In all seriousness, though, every human heart longs to love and be loved. However, I am far past the desire for a run-of-the-mill sort of love. No, not just any old romance will do. What I seek, what I will wait a lifetime for, is the kind of love that will forever alter my life in a most miraculous, wondrous way. I want the love of a good man to add vibrancy to the colors in my world. His love should be a song my heart eagerly sings. Being with him should be the greatest and best adventure I ever experience. I want a man who perceives the depths of my soul, cherishes my heart, and takes delight in my smile. I have no use for a man (or boy, because some men remain boys no matter what age they are) who lacks the key traits of loyalty, honesty, and kindness. For that matter, I also have no use for one who possesses a deep-seated fear of the very notion of love. Therefore, Mister Dream Man, I care not a whit about how much money is in your bank account, what you look like, or the type of vehicle you drive. Your favorite sports teams (go Seahawks), your fashion sense (or lack thereof), and the ability to do such heinous things as burp the letters of the alphabet are of no consequence to me (although that last one is rather revolting. Please tell me you do not do that — at least not with any frequency). My interest rests in the contents of your heart. I want to know if you are kind to old women who hold up the line at the grocery store. Do children and dogs like you? Do you have a favorite charity? By chance, if we do someday meet, I shall do my best never to measure you by anything except your capacity to love with abandon. And maybe your laughter. Laugh lines etched like glorious grooves of joy around your eyes would be an unmistakable sign that you are more than a mere acquaintance with happiness. I suppose if I expect you to reach out to me upon finding this preposterous missive, you should know something about me beyond the fact I’ve tried falling in love and the experiment failed quite spectacularly. The world I live in is not complex. Rather, my life is simplistic for the most part. My days are often divine, filled with sweet moments and dear friends. Assuredly, they (the days and my friends) are never, ever dull. I have never had to work at a job (at least by the definition most people attribute to that particular word) as an adult because that which I turn my hand to is something that brings me a heaping abundance of bliss. After reading this, if you think you may hold an interest in meeting an old-fashioned girl with her share of quirks, one who enjoys sunsets, chocolate (obviously), and treasures from gentler days, please email me at OneVintageRose@...Excerpt 2: “No, Mom! No way, no how!” Tanner Thomas glowered at his mother from across the dinner table. He plunked down the knife and fork in his hands and counted to ten, attempting to curtail his inclination to lose patience with his meddling parent. Over the years, she’d come up with any number of ridiculous schemes to set him up on dates, but she’d reached an all new level of absurdity if she thought he’d follow her latest suggestion. “It’s never, ever, going to happen, Mom.” “But, Tanner, she sounds like a perfectly marvelous girl,” Meri Thomas said. Hope glimmered in eyes the same warm shade of blue as Tanner’s. She lifted a glass bottle from where she’d placed it beside his dinner plate and tipped out a piece of rolled parchment, the kind one might have used to write letters a few hundred years ago. “I have a feeling this girl is the one, honey. You have to get in touch with her.” Tanner shook his head, refusing to take the letter she held out to him. “I don’t care who she is, where she’s from, or anything about her. I’m not emailing a total stranger because you think she might be the one.” He used his index and middle fingers to make air quotations. “The one, Mom? Come on. You said the same thing about the lunatic who worked with your friend’s niece at the coffee shop. I thought I was going to have to take out a restraining order to get her to leave me alone.”Excerpt 3: For a moment, he wondered if she was a fan of that British show set in the Edwardian era, the one his mother raved about. He couldn’t recall the name of it, but the woman certainly looked like she’d fit into that historical period. When she tugged pins from her hair and the long locks cascaded around her shoulders, his jaw dropped. The woman was exquisite. Ethereal. An enchantress completely unaware of her audience or her powers. Smitten, Tanner couldn’t move, could barely breathe as he watched her shake out her hair. Curls scattered on the breeze, swirling every direction. He smiled when she blew an unruly coil out of her eyes. All at once, she lifted her skirts and ran into a small wave as it rolled across the sand. Her delighted laughter stroked something inside him, deep inside him, which had never been touched. This woman, who splashed through the waves like a wayward child, beguiled him. "The chemistry was really great and I loved the beach setting. This was a really sweet, clean romance." Amazon Reviewer "Beautifully crafted love story. Makes you believe in the power of love." Amazon Reviewer "Charming story. Historical details mixed with romance and ocean sunsets. Just the right amount of humor tossed into the writing to keep the pages turning." 6/21/2018
Meant for Each Other by Delaney Cameron Kirsten is thrilled to return to the place where she spent so many summers as a child. Here she can forget the episode that nearly ruined her last year of college. Was it unreasonable to suppose that this far from the scene of her crime she would be safe from meeting the man who knew all about her worst moment? After six months of nonstop traveling, Trey is happy to trade living on the road for the peace and quiet of Tybee Island. In such surroundings, he should be able to work undisturbed. These plans are interrupted by the appearance of a former student. Running into Kirsten is a disturbance of the worst kind: a reminder of an encounter he hasn’t been able to forget. Author’s note: This is a revised and expanded version of a novella published years ago under a different title and pen name. It takes place before the events of Dream of Me.
Read for FREE with KINDLE UNLIMITED Kirsten finished rearranging the magazines for the third time in the last half hour and slumped down in the chair behind the desk. It didn’t matter what she did. Nothing was going to take away the knot of tension lodged tightly in her chest. And to make matters worse, she still hadn’t figured out what she was going to say. ‘Hey, Professor Dawson. Remember me?’ wasn’t going to get it done. She was counting paperclips while she recited some possible opening lines when she heard footsteps on the porch. Her glance went to the door. Please don’t be him, she pleaded inside her head. This last ditch effort to avoid her Waterloo failed. The beveled glass door opened and in he came. At first glance, he looked younger and thinner. His casual dress could account for that. He’d always worn suits for his lectures. “Hey, Lucy. I wondered if I might get breakfast sent to my room each morning.” Mistaking Kirsten for her sister was understandable given that they both had long, blonde hair and the fact that the desk was situated in the darkest part of the room. It also explained why he was still smiling, something that wasn’t destined to last. By the time he was standing opposite of where she sat waiting for the proverbial ax to fall, it was apparent he’d realized his error. Before she could inform him that it would be their pleasure to bring breakfast to his room, she saw his eyes narrow and his smile slowly disappear. “We seem fated to meet with you sitting behind a desk that’s presumably not your own. What are you looking for this time?” Her veneer of politeness fell away under this direct attack. “I happen to work here.” “Really? What brought you to Tybee Island? Did Alabama offer too little scope for one with your talents?” Forgetting for the moment that she needed assistance from the man towering over her, she allowed her pent-up frustration full reign. “For the tenth time, I wasn’t stealing exam questions!” His brows soared above his blue eyes, but in contrast to her heated reaction, his voice remained level. “At least you’re consistent.” Kirsten took a moment to remember her surroundings and accordingly lowered her voice. “That’s easy to do when you’re telling the truth. Why would I steal a test for a class I wasn’t in? It doesn’t make sense.” “Do I really need to answer that?” he asked shortly. “No, because it’s obvious you’re not going to believe me.” “With some justification, wouldn’t you agree?” “If you would take a moment to use some of that banked intelligence you undoubtedly possess…” She got no further. He held up his hand. “Facts are hard to argue.” She sighed heavily; she was getting nowhere. Time to try a different tactic. “Can’t we just forget it happened?” A small smile played around his lips. “So let me get this straight. You want me to conveniently forget that you entered my office without permission and were actually caught with the evidence in your hands. And furthermore, you want me to conceal this knowledge from your present employer.” When he put it like that, she was asking a lot. But if it were at all possible, she wanted to keep this from Lucy. “Since I can’t convince you what my real purpose was, then yes, I do. If it makes you feel better about it, my sister manages this inn.” “How is that supposed to make me feel better?” Kirsten came around the desk. Once again she was staring into his face asking for something she didn’t deserve. If anything, he was even more handsome than she remembered. She wished those same features didn’t also look so forbidding. “I don’t want something stupid I did in the past to cause problems for Lucy. She shouldn’t have to suffer on my account.” Trey looked at her in silence. As happened previously in his office, he was unable to ignore the appeal in her deep-set amber eyes. The fact that he couldn’t was a source of irritation. He should be above being influenced by a lovely woman, especially one he knew to be deceitful. He laughed inwardly. Maybe he wasn’t as lacking in sentiment as he thought. In any case, her concern for her sister was something in her favor. There was no need to make trouble unnecessarily. “Your secret is safe with me. By the way, what was so important about that envelope you were supposedly trying to find?” Kirsten’s cheeks turned scarlet with what he took to be embarrassment. “It was something silly. My roommate mailed it to you as a joke.” She stopped for a moment and then went on in a more subdued tone. “I never found it. You came in before I got very far.” “Something for which I refuse to apologize. It was, after all, my office you were vandalizing.” “That’s not true,” she quipped through clenched teeth. “I put everything back exactly where I found it.” Trey couldn’t help smiling at her indignation. “You were a model thief. If I hadn’t caught you myself, I’d never have known you were there.” “You can laugh about it, but you’ll never understand the state I was in. I was desperate to get that envelope.” “Why were you so desperate? You claimed it belonged to your roommate.” “I lied,” she admitted in a low voice. “It was mine.” Something he’d already figured out himself. “You seem to have a problem telling the truth.” “I know it must seem that way to you...” “It doesn’t seem that way. It is that way.” Kirsten bit her lip. “I suppose it’s useless to deny it.” Trey felt a stirring of pity. “We’ve agreed to forget about it.” He was almost to the door when she spoke again. “Professor Dawson?” He glanced over his shoulder. “Yes?” “What time did you want breakfast?” “Eight, and under the circumstances, isn’t it ridiculous to be so formal? Call me Trey.” Her eyes widened. “I could never do that.” “I don’t see why not. That’s how you referred to me in your poem.” She paled so quickly he thought she was going to faint. Why would his remark make her so upset? Then he realized something that hadn’t occurred to him before: Kirsten assumed he never found the envelope. That was probably the only reason she admitted that it was hers. Another twinge of sympathy slid through him. He tried to think of something to say that would make the situation better and couldn’t. “I’ll let you get back to whatever you were doing.” She smiled wanly. “Thank you. Enjoy the rest of your evening.” “You, too,” he said, opening the door. Back in his room, Trey tried to tell himself that none of this was his fault, but he felt bad anyway. He never could stand to hurt someone even when they’d brought it on themselves. I absolutely loved Kirsten and Trey and their pathway of romance. Their story was very unusual and felt pure and thoughtful, and filled with an underlying depth that could be felt. This is one of those books that I'll read again. Trey and Kirsten are individually so well written. The reader fully feels all of Kirsten’s emotional upheaval, humiliation, confusion, joy, adoration, and sadness right along with her as she tries to work out how to conduct herself and still falls deeper for Trey. We respect Trey for his desire to protect Kirsten’s feelings while maintaining distance, and when he begins to sort out his own mind and feelings, we feel that, too. Delaney Cameron is great with tension and developing both the characters and storyline in a well paced progression. This beautiful story is much, much more than meets the eye. Yes, it is a complicated, modern romance where misunderstanding and pain twist into the relationships and solutions don’t seem possible. Yes, there are 2 men in Kirsten’s life who have different agendas and different styles. Yes, the characters come alive and become your friends as you learn of their inner feelings and deepest desires. Yes, the scenery is deliciously divine—the beach scenes sweep you away to a gorgeous southern island where you want to stay forever and not come back. Yes, the dialogue is real but masterful and often I found myself catching my breath as precious feelings were shared. Yes, it was wonderfully clean. Yes, this book is well-written with a solid storyline but what I discovered within its pages was so much more. This tells the story of true love, pure love, and never-giving-up love, as well as unselfish love and your-needs-are-more-important-than-mine love. The author writes a brilliant journey of true love like I have never read before. Beautiful and soul-searching. Exquisite masterpiece. Author Delaney Cameron I'm a Georgia girl at heart if not by birth. I love to read, watch college football, and spend time with my husband. I'm a hopeless romantic so there will always be a happily ever after in my stories. I also like to write about second chances because love doesn't always work out the first time. My books are sweet romances set in both contemporary and regency settings featuring stories about the journey to love, from that first meeting to the point where two people know their hearts are no longer their own. My characters aren't perfect. They make mistakes and have faults like the rest of us. They learn the sometimes painful truth that the path to love isn't always smooth, but it's a road worth traveling.Unforgettable Love -- Rachael Anderson
6/21/2018
My Sister’s Intended by Rachael Anderson For as long as Prudence can remember, it has been understood that her sister will one day wed the eldest son of their nearest neighbor. Such an alliance will benefit both families and bring a great deal of joy to all parents involved. Unfortunately, Prudence has never been able to feel as joyful. She believes her sister is mad to consider marrying a man she hardly knows, even if he will one day make her a countess. Titles and wealth shouldn’t factor into matters of the heart, and as an aspiring romance novelist, Prudence cannot fathom how anyone could even think of settling for less than love. She certainly wouldn’t, and she doesn’t want her sister to either. Unable to stand by and do nothing, Prudence sets out to help the awkward couple discover the best in each other with the hope that they will eventually find love. What she neglected to foresee, however, was the possibility that she might fall in love with Lord Knave herself.
Read for FREE with KINDLE UNLIMITED When Prudence lifted her eyes to his again, they sparkled with a challenge. “I was going to save this question until later so as not to shock you from the get-go, but I really do need to know . . . What does it feel like to kiss a woman?” A large lump formed in Brand’s throat, and his mouth went dry. What the deuce? She had promised not to ask questions that would make him uncomfortable, but already he wanted to flee like a frightened kitten. How could he possibly explain how it felt to kiss a woman? Brand searched his mind for a way to avoid answering until he heard a snicker escape her lips. She was laughing at him. Him! Hildebrand Ethan Cannon, Viscount Knave—a man at least eight years her senior and a great deal higher in social standing. Unbelievable. “You are teasing me,” he said, hoping it was true. If she’d posed the question to make him squirm—and perhaps make him more inclined to answer her other questions—then she wouldn’t be expecting an answer. She shook her head, still smiling. “I’m afraid not, my lord, although I did find the look of terror on your face vastly amusing.” “I’m glad I could entertain you.” “I hope you will be equally glad to instruct me on a few things as well. The first scene in my book will include a kiss, and I have no idea how to describe the experience. Do a woman’s lips feel warm or soft or even moist? Would your pulse quicken? Aside from touch, what other senses are engaged? How would it make you feel and what would you notice when you held a woman in your arms?” If she thought he’d appeared terror-stricken before, there would be no word for how he looked now. Did she earnestly expect him to answer such questions? Surely even she knew how inappropriate it would be to discuss such things, her being an innocent. “I cannot say,” he finally muttered. Her brow puckered in confusion. “Have you never kissed a woman, my lord?” Brand was sorely tempted to lie and say he had not, but he couldn’t bring himself to do so. Any man of six-and-twenty who had never experienced a kiss would be laughed out of his manhood. Women were expected to remain innocent until married. Men were not. “Yes, I have kissed a woman,” he finally admitted, “but I have no intention of discussing any of the details with you.” “Why not?” she asked, her large brown eyes blinking at him curiously. “Would you rather I invent the information?” “Yes.” She obviously didn’t appreciate his retort because she scowled. “Can you not tell me at least a little?” “No.” “Why?” “Because a kiss could never be described with any sort of accuracy, at least not by me. It involves too many feelings and sensations and complexities of thought. If you wish to know what a kiss feels like, you’ll have to experience it for yourself.” Too late, Brand realized his mistake. Her expression became contemplative, as though she was actually considering doing just that. Good gads, had he really just encouraged an innocent young woman to go hunting for a kiss? Who would she ask? A groom? Stablehand? The next peddler that came to town? “I think you are right,” she said at last. “I really must experience a kiss for myself if I am to describe it with any sort of accuracy.” She blinked up at him with that innocent expression again. “Will you kiss me Lord Knave? No, how silly of me. You are to marry my sister, so that would never do.” She pursed her lips for a moment before musing, “Perhaps one of the footmen would be kind enough to show me how it’s done.” Kind enough? Brand could think of a great many reasons a footman would comply with such a request, and kindness did not factor into any of them. Brand would kiss her himself before he allowed a footman near her. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, feeling a headache coming on. “Perhaps I can try to explain what it feels like after all.” Better that than having her chase after a footman. “But you only just said you couldn’t do it justice,” she pointed out. “I realize I sound dreadfully forward, but I really must know, and experience is the best teacher, is it not?” “No, it isn’t,” he lied. “And you are not going to kiss a footman.” “Then who? Felix or Lionel, perhaps? I’m fairly certain I can convince one of them to do it, if given the opportunity. The question is how to go about it?” It was plain to see by the firm set of her jaw that she would not rest until she had experienced a kiss of her own. She didn’t seem to care who did the deed, only that the man did a thorough job of it. A quick peck on the lips wouldn’t satisfy her curiosities. “Perhaps I could send a note to Felix and ask him to call on me,” she continued to muse. “We could take a stroll through the maze in the gardens. There is a hidden alcove on the south side, which could be quite perfect. We would have to evade Ruth, obviously, but—” “Devil take it,” Brand growled as he pulled her to him. Her quick intake of breath was the only sound she made before his mouth covered hers. “I got seriously hooked on this book right from the first glance. Everything in this story is so beautiful and done so perfectly. The cover is stunning, the blurb intriguing and the story flow expertly done.” –NjKinny’s World of Books & Stuff “The moment I set eyes on this cover page, I knew I am going to love this cute love story. My Fair Lacey & A Perfect Fit by Janette Rallison "My Fair Lacey" is the story of Lacey, who has dreamed of opening a restaurant for years - but first she needs a loan. When Garrett Halifax, her roommate's Harvard-educated brother, offers to help her clean up her appearance and manner to impress the bank manager, she jumps at the chance - but will she be able to keep up appearances without falling for the sexy Garrett? In "A Perfect Fit" Rallison Jojo Halifax believes that winning Echo Ridge's float competition is just what her fledgling art career needs. And if that means giving her ex-boyfriend, Anthony, a second chance so she can be a designer on his team, well, she's willing to make the sacrifice. But when a lost bet leads to a blind date with her brother's friend, Wyatt, she begins to have second thoughts about second chances. Wyatt is handsome and charming and just might have been paid to make her forget about Anthony. Is falling for his charm worth the risk or should she take Anthony back again?
Read for FREE with KINDLE UNLIMITED Excerpt from My Fair Lacey Lacey’s second week of practice went about the same as the first had, and the third wasn’t much better. Her boss didn’t appreciate it when he overheard a customer asking how the lasagna was and she answered, “Ignominious.” Ignominious, it turned out, was a word her boss knew. She read more Dickens along with Wuthering Heights, and Frankenstein. When she went to Garrett’s house for her next lesson, he led her into the living room and asked, “What did you think of this week’s literature?” “I never knew British dudes had so many problems.” She plopped down onto his couch. “They all seemed like they had such boring lives.” He laughed and she couldn’t keep herself from staring at him. He looked good when he laughed. He seemed relaxed, touchable, and . . .well, there was probably some hyped up word with lots of syllables that smart people used to describe a guy when he looked that way, but she hadn’t learned it yet. He gave her a twenty-minute lesson on verb tenses, then spent another twenty minutes quizzing her on it. “Which is correct: They is meeting you later or they are meeting you later?” “Neither. I don’t have time to meet anyone. I sold my soul to Garrett Halifax.” “Correct,” he said, and there was a pleased glint in his eye. ***** Lacey pressed her lips together and tried again. “Couldn’t you find some authors who write more entertainingly?” Garrett didn’t answer because he was typing instructions into his laptop. He had a list of grammar rules that he kept adding to when she made a mistake. She was supposed to go over his list every day. She glared at his bent head. Why did he always have to act like a teacher? Had he even given her parted lips the briefest of thoughts? He turned his attention back to her. “Do you want a romance?” Her breath hitched in her lungs. Was he really asking her this question so casually, and right after he’d written down a grammar rule for her? He wasn’t looking at her with any sort of passion, just bland interest. She shifted in her chair. “Um. Maybe. I’m not sure.” She took a deep breath, and tried to think of a better way to phrase her feelings. He didn’t wait for her to say more. His gaze dropped to the notebook in front of him. “All right, I’ll give you a few Jane Austen novels to read. A lot of women are partial to her works.” Oh. He had asked her if she wanted to read a romance, not have a romance with him. A stab of disappointment went through her. One that was unexpectedly strong. She bit her lip, swallowed and hoped she wasn’t blushing. No use. She was definitely blushing. Heat rose in her neck and cheeks. She just had to hope he didn’t notice. He tapped his pencil against the table absently. “I know classics aren’t as easy to read as modern novels, but you’re not only listening to these books because of their complex sentence structure and higher vocabulary; you also need to have a basic cultural understanding. When someone mentions Homer’s Odyssey at a dinner party, you need to know that they’re talking about an ancient Greek story, not a rock group. Do you see my point?” “Yeah. Your point is that you go to a lot of boring dinner parties.”Excerpt from A Perfect Fit “You want me to seduce your sister?” Wyatt Nelson sat in front of his laptop, staring at the video feed of Garrett, his old roommate. Had Wyatt heard him right? Maybe the internet had glitched and he’d misunderstood the request. Asking Wyatt to go out on a blind date with his sister was one thing; asking for seduction was something completely different. Garrett winced at the question. He usually looked like the poster child for a Harvard graduate: clean-cut, designer suit, born for high-powered business meetings. Now his tie was loose and his blond hair tousled, as though he’d been raking his fingers through it. “I don’t actually mean seduce seduce her. Not that. I was thinking more along the lines of just luring her away from her idiot boyfriend.” Wyatt raised an eyebrow. Garrett had to be kidding. He was trying to set him up with someone who was already in a relationship? “So, what you’re saying is you want me to seduce your sister, who happens to be in love with another guy?” Garrett waved his hand at Wyatt. “Shouldn’t be that hard. You’re a pro at romance. Half the girls at Harvard were in love with you. You must have some method to make them fall for you.” Incredible. If Wyatt hadn’t already been friends with Garrett, he would have thought the guy was a colossal jerk. But he knew Garrett better than that. He was blunt and sometimes brash, but not completely unfeeling. “Girls like me because I’m a nice guy. The kind that doesn’t blatantly use people—you know, like trying to make them fall in love with me just because their brother doesn’t like their boyfriend.” Garrett leaned back in his chair. “Hey, use whatever methods work for you. All I want is Jojo to be happily away from the influence of Anthony. ” *** Jojo joined Wyatt, reading the menu over his shoulder. Sitting so close was probably a mistake. She was near enough to smell his aftershave. The scent was rich and masculine. The lecture she’d given herself on being sensible tonight—yeah, she’d lasted two minutes with his aftershave and now was deciding that being sensible was overrated. “See anything you want?” he asked. Um, yes. The chance to forget things by staring into his brown eyes.

Rescue and Redemption by Daniel Banner JFK, a firefighter for the Park City Fire Department, is tired of being razzed about his classy nickname. He’s lost weight, and even cut back on the swearing and drinking in an effort to fit the image. Still, he believes people never really change at heart. After all, under those muscles that can bench 250, he’s still the same guy. When a striking beauty wanders into his kitchen with her two-year sobriety coin, he wonders if he’s underestimated himself. A guy like him might just get a girl like her. Mercy Jewell McGovern, recently graduated from college and is in the process of getting her life back on track when she meets JFK. She’s immediately attracted to the capable chef running his precision kitchen at a charity event. But on their first date, it’s obvious he’s used to hanging out with guys, not with a lady. That won’t fly for Mercy. Despite her rowdy past, she knows she’s worthy of someone who knows how to open a door for her and can sit down to Sunday dinner with her extended family, the Jewells, who could write books on manners. Time after time JFK comes to her rescue, but will she be the one to ultimately save him from settling for less than his best?
Read for FREE with KINDLE UNLIMITED On sale until 8 am on June 19th As Mercy walked into the huge, bustling kitchen, she heard a man snap, “Just because it’s a free meal doesn’t mean they get what they pay for!” She saw a large man in a white chef’s coat and big white chef’s hat that fell back behind his head. He went on to tell a middle-aged man who was slicing potatoes, “These little pieces are going to be starch-mush and these big fat ones will be crunchy. You can’t cook a dime and a hockey puck in the same dish. Keep it consistent, keep it quality.” “Yes, Chef,” said the man with the dedication of a reality food show contestant. The chef took a step over to another counter where a row of women were washing and peeling potatoes and picked up a perfectly peeled specimen. “If I need eggs peeled I know who to come to, but we’re making gourmet.” He grabbed a potato out of a huge bowl that had bits of peel still on it. “Gourmet, Mrs. Huxton. It’s like regular food but with more mistakes and smaller portions.” “Yes, Chef,” she said and screwed up her face as she worked on peeling potatoes in a less perfectionist manner. The chef was young to be so in charge, maybe 25 or 26. His facial features were large and manly and his eyes took in everything from under a strong brow. His jaw was just as strong and his big lips looked like they could be kissed for hours without wearing out. It had been a while since a man’s physical appearance had such an effect on Mercy, and she shook her head to clear it and get back to work. It was obvious the chef wanted good work done in his kitchen and he didn’t really care about what people thought about him. Yeah, his bedside manner could be more coddling with the volunteers and paid workers, but they seemed to respond to his brusque manner. Mercy found his manner attractive, as well as the way his kitchen buzzed with people getting things done right. His big, strong face was just plain sexy, she found herself thinking again. He was nothing like a chiseled marble statue, more like Tarzan, King of the Jungle, but not as ripped. Under the chef jacket he was carrying some extra weight, but he carried it just fine. The name badge pinned to his chest strictly read, Chef. “Looking for a job?” he asked her, and she realized she’d been staring. “Or just admiring the specimen?” He spread his hands wide to let her see all of him. Mercy smiled and brushed her hair back behind one ear and wondered if he liked edgy hair styles. “I’m Mercy, the Volunteer Coordinator for today.” “Oh good.” Projecting his voice toward some people chopping green beans, he said, “Now I know who to call when Jeff chops his fingers off.” “I’m being more careful, Chef,” said a skinny man in glasses without looking up. “What’s your name?” asked Mercy. “JFK.” “I like your hat,” she told him. “Thanks, I like your …” he looked at the shaved side of her head, the small stud in her nose, then at her coat, her Chuck Taylors, then his eyes stopped briefly on her neck where a couple of her tattoos came up almost to her hairline. With a mischievous grin he said, “I like your compliment of my hat.” Mercy found herself laughing naturally. Usually when she met guys her age they were either tripping over themselves trying to impress her, or sneering contemptuously at her. This guy—JFK? Really?—was one hundred percent himself. She didn’t know if she’d ever met someone so real. "I've loved all of the books in this series, but I have to say this was my favorite so far!" "JFK had Mercy crying happy tears by the 43 percent mark, and I was crying with her."
