Title: Summer by the Tides
Author: Denise Hunter
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Release Date: May 21, 2019
Genre: Inspirational Women's Fiction/Romance

From the bestselling author of The Convenient Groom (now a beloved Hallmark Original movie) comes a heartfelt story of family secrets, forgiveness, and unexpected romance.

Following a painful betrayal, Maddy Monroe's love life is a wreck, and her restaurant career is in shambles. When her grandmother goes missing, she and her estranged sisters converge at the family beach house in Sea Haven, North Carolina. Being with uptight Nora and free-spirited Emma at the place where their family broke apart is a struggle, and undercurrents of jealousy and resentment threaten to pull the sisters under. In the midst of the storm, sparks begin to fly between Maddy and Gram's maddening neighbor, Connor Murphy.

As the sisters pack up the family belongings, memories of idyllic, slow-paced summers are resurrected. But long-buried secrets also come to light as Maddy discovers that all was not as it appeared that last summer in Sea Haven--nor today in the seemingly perfect lives of her sisters.

As family tensions rise and Connor causes tumult in Maddy's heart, the sisters must find a way to accept each other for the women they've become before the bitterness of the past destroys their hope for a future.

Review

Three sisters torn apart by the past are tricked by their grandmother into spending the summer together.  This story is about overcoming past hurt and heartache before it destroys the bond of sisterhood.  It’s about finding the strength to come together and not dwell too much on the past so that they can have a brighter future.  And of course there’s the cute neighbor boy next door that one of the sisters becomes romantically involved with, adding a sweet romance twist to the story as well.  Reader’s hearts will be touched as they come to know the characters in the story and will be rooting for them to work everything out.  This is a beautiful, powerful, and heart wrenching story that readers will not want to part with until the last page is turned.

From page one, readers will be laughing outload at the hilarious situations in this sweet and charming story.  This is the second book in The CafFunated Mysteries series and continues the story of two rivals turned friends and business partners.  It’s about how these two friends always somehow get mixed up with some mystery that is going on in town and how they help solve the mystery.  Along with the cozy mystery feel, there is a bit of light romance, but it’s not a main focus of the novel.  The story is cute and humorous and readers will absolutely delight in it.

Genre: Contemporary Romance/Split Timeline

Can two broken paths lead toward God’s redemption?

When Ashley Showalter and Ben Henning meet on Ashley’s horse rescue farm, they quickly discover how much they have in common. Both were raised by single moms. Both want to help where they see a need. And both work with horses in the Boise valley. Ben needs Ashley’s help and expertise after starting an equine therapy barn on his great-great-grandfather’s farm—and the more time they spend together, both Ashley and Ben have the feeling that there could be something more between them.

They also carry the burden of past experiences that may drive them apart if the truth is ever revealed. Ben is a recovering alcoholic with five years of sobriety behind him, while Ashley’s brother is an opioid addict residing in court-ordered rehab. Holding fast to the belief that addicts can never be cured, Ashley has promised herself she will never walk knowingly into the chaos created by addiction. Ben knows that with God, all things are possible—but will Ashley find it within herself to give love a chance? Or will her brother’s mistakes and the pain of her past jeopardize her future with Ben?

Review

Robin Lee Hatcher has written a beautiful duel timeline story about heartache, mistakes, and redemption.  Both stories within the novel are powerful and inspiring as they bring to life the struggles, hardships, heartaches, and mistakes, as well as the joys, forgiveness, and redemption.  Focusing on strengthening relationships is another strong topic in this story.  Encompasses some hard topics in her novel, Hatcher does it with grace and skill.  The story is easy to follow, even with the back and forth between the different time lines.  Hatcher has once again written a story that readers will enjoy.

About the Author

Picture
Much to his dislike, E. James Harrison is not a New York Times best-selling author. However, he is the author of three other novels, all of which his wife and mother really like.

Born in Salt Lake City, he learned to type in the seventh grade on an old Smith-Corona manual typewriter and has been pecking out words ever since. He somehow managed to graduate from college with degrees emphasizing public relations and creative writing and has spent most of his professional life writing magazine articles about such gripping subjects as Internet technology or has kept veterinarians on the edges of their seats with articles about the latest advances in goat, rabbit, and hamster medicine. Those thrilling achievements pale in comparison to the radio advertisements and TV commercials he has written encouraging people to upgrade to the latest mobile phone or calling plan.

When he isn't putting words on paper for himself or others, he can be found boating and waterskiing with his family, working on the family ranch, flying an airplane, or traveling to see new things and meet new people.

He and his wife, Deborah, have two amazing daughters and an awesome son-in-law and are the proud grandparents of the four best grandkids in the world. He is not prone to hyperbole.

Review

From page one, readers will be drawn to this intense, speed-up-your-heart-rate novel.  This story will have readers on the edge of their seats throughout the entire story.  And it will definitely keep readers up past their bedtime (which may or may not be a good idea).  This story is full speed ahead on the suspense and mystery level too.  It also brings to light the horrific problem of drug trafficking and the effect it has on those that get stuck sucked in and within its grasp.  This read is definitely not for the faint of heart.  It’s a story that is intriguing and horrifying all at once.  Readers will not be able to put this fast paced story down.

Author Laurel Blount has written a sweet, family centered, and hometown feel book that readers will enjoy.  A big focus in this story is a child dealing with the death of her mother and working with a therapist to get her talking again.  This is a charming feel-good read that causes readers to reflect on their own families and their relationships with them.  Especially with children.  And of course readers would be disappointed if there wasn’t a touch of sweet romance.  The characters and their lives come to life as readers dive into this delightful, engaging, quick read.

Amanda Tero has written a fun, short, and sweet Beauty and the Beast retelling.  This story is about a man losing the love of your life and not recovering.  It’s about his daughter going away to live with her aunt and uncle who could better take care of her.  And it’s about coming home and restoring a struggling relationship between a father and daughter.  This is not your typical Beauty and the Beast story.  It’s not that of a romantic love story, but rather a lost and found again love between a father and daughter.  This is a charming story that readers will thoroughly enjoy!
