My First Line:

Marjorie Fairchild stood perched in a tree and willed her secret love to come outside. Leaves spun in circles around her head. Her stomach grumbled from the scent of baking bread drifting from the estate’s kitchen below, but she ignored her traitorous body. She needed to tell Reginald how she felt before she left. She might never see him again.

Review

In the sequel to Love on Pointe, Tiffany Odekirk shares a beautiful story of life and happily ever after in her novel Love Unscripted.  Odekirk’s tale brings to life how hard life can be.  Especially when it doesn’t go exactly how you think it will.  But she also shows how joyful and sweet life can be as well.  This delightful tale is filled with charming characters that readers will immediately relate to as they come to life from the pages.  Odekirk has written a sweet, funny, and enjoyable story that readers of LDS contemporary romance will thoroughly enjoy!

Falling in Love - Spotlight on Jennifer Griffith

9/26/2018
My 90's Boy Band Boyfriend by Jennifer Griffith Teenage singer Oakley Marsden is having a rough week. Pop-star Hudson’s rough week is twenty-three years long Sixteen-year-old Oakley just wants to win a spot on TV’s The Next Radio Star. But when her bad audition goes viral, going back to school is a nightmare. Even more humiliating, she discovers her own mother was a boy band groupie. Cringe. And Mom still has a thing for a nineties boy band killed in the tragic plane crash twenty years ago. When things can’t get worse, a strange beggar guy ends up carrying Oakley home—and Oakley’s mom loses her mind. She’s convinced he’s the long-dead popstar Hudson Oaks, frontman for Girl Crazy and Mom’s long-lost love. And the guy isn’t denying it. Curse him. Oakley has to save her mom from this impostor before Mom does something insane—and before Oakley starts falling for his charm too.

Mom’s voice got that suppressed squealing quality again. “Don’t you know who that is?” “Who who is?” Oakley refused to believe her mom knew the seventeen/forty-year-old currently in her master bathroom shower. “That guy? He’s probably a drug addict, Mom. Believe me, I see a lot more of them at high school than you see in kindergarten. They’re actually pretty easy to spot: lack of self-care, bad personal hygiene, general disorientation, smell of smoke.” “Sweetheart.” Mom looked more serious than she had in days, and she grabbed both of Oakley’s hands again for emphasis. “That guy who is now showering in our house is Hudson Oaks.” The housing development guy from the boy band two decades ago? “Mom.” Oakley wondered how many times she was going to have to call her mom out today for making wildly ridiculous statements. It was climbing into the dozens category now. “I think you and I both know that’s impossible.” “He sounds like him, walks like him, says his name is Hudson Oaks. All the reasons. Trust me, I’m probably the greatest living expert on Hudson Oaks besides the man himself.” That guy in her shower couldn’t be more than seventeen, and therefore not, legally, a man. Her mom should stay right away from that jailbait. Weren’t school teachers specifically trained on stuff like this? Apparently Mom had shelved all that based on seeing a … what? Oakley’s world shifted on sands she hadn’t even known she’d been standing on. This new version of her life contained a mom who might just run off with a minor. “Did you look at him, Mom? He’s, like, a seventeen-year-old kid. This whole incident happened over two decades ago. Don’t tell me you can explain that.” “Of course I can.” Of course she could. Oakley swallowed all the acid-tinged words and asked, “How?” “Obvious. Time travel.” A tiny explosion detonated in Oakley’s brain, but before she could react, a soft knock came at Oakley’s door. Mom hadn’t heard it, too enthralled in her moment of brilliant discovery. But Oakley had. She looked over. There in the doorframe, lit from the hall light behind, stood a dripping wet, formerly dirty boy, clad in just a towel at his waist. His hair was combed, and he had a definite young Tom Cruise quality about him—dark hair, charming smile, and those shoulders. Great Gatsby, those shoulders! Oakley caught her breath and had to swallow hard. The way he held his mouth, like he expected every woman to want to kiss it, made a little muscle tremble at the back of Oakley’s stomach. She immediately tightened the muscle to put a halt to that nonsense.     Loved it! Fun and witty and had enough twists to keep me guessing. The hero was totally swoony and I really identified with the heroine. It had a perfect ending! ~Donna H   Time for a blast from the past! I had a lot of fun reading this book. I loved all the references to 90s music and culture. I had some pretty good laughs every time I came across a reference from that time. ~Julie C   Fun, fun read! Between a time-traveling rock star who looks like Tom Cruise, finding out about her mother’s teenaged craziness, learning to give her stepfather the credit he deserves, and coming to terms with her own insecurities and talent, Oakley has a lot on her plate! Let the fun and games begin! ~Traci A   This brought back a lot of memories as I was a teen in the 80's. I loved this story. Sweet read & definitely good for teens & pre-teens or adults looking for a clean, fun story with a little romance, a little mystery & feel good ending! ~Rose D Author Jennifer Griffith Jennifer Griffith writes light, sweet romances she calls Cotton Candy for the Soul. Her Legally in Love Collection stems from the fact she fell in love with a handsome law school student who now serves as a judge--as well as her muse. She also writes the Millionaire Makeover Romances, millionaires and makeovers being some things with which she has less experience. Jennifer loves old cars, landscape paintings, fresh bread with raspberry jam, and reading. She lived in Japan during college, where she once ate a cricket on a dare. She also traveled through Europe, where she slept a night in a castle on the Rhine. Jennifer worked summers in a cookie factory, and she spent a few years working for the U.S. Congress before becoming a wife, a mom and an author.

Falling in Love -- Spotlight on Kimberly Krey

9/25/2018
The Sheriff's Bride by Kimberly Krey Trent Lockheart might be the new sheriff in town, but he can’t stop Jessie Jean from stealing his heart. Sheriff Trent Lockheart knew he’d be in for a challenge when he moved from the big city and a large police force to the small Wyoming town of Cobble Creek. But at least he’d be able to stick to his bachelor ways without temptation. So he thought. Cobble Creek isn’t overflowing with young, single ladies, but Jessie Jean—the gorgeous brunette who runs the Country Quilt Inn—proves more tempting than any woman he’s known. Jessie doesn’t care much for the new sheriff in town. After an explosive first meeting that almost ends in Jessie’s arrest, she’s even more determined to plan on dinner for one for the rest of her life. Sure, the new sheriff is seriously attractive, and after a second, much less dangerous run-in, he might not be that bad, but Jessie has no plan to marry, date, or even let a man into her life. Still, as the days pass, Trent’s surprising charm works past Jessie’s determination, and she finds promise in their budding relationship. After opening up about the difficulties in her past, Jessie finds that Trent is guarding a dark tragedy of his own, one that might threaten their chance at a future together.

Of all the nerve! Who in their right mind would remove flyers for a fundraiser to help a single mother battling cancer? If Jessie came across this guy she’d let him have it. No doubt it was a guy; no woman had the heart to do such a thing. She took her frustration out on the stapler, pounding three staples into each corner of the page. “There,” she hissed. “Take this one down. I dare ya.” The deep sound of a man clearing his throat sounded behind her. “Who are you talking to, Miss?” She spun around, surprised to see an unfamiliar officer standing there. Wait, maybe he was familiar after all. Those sunglasses looked a whole lot like the ones she’d caught sight of a moment ago. She hadn’t noticed the uniform, as distracted by she’d been. In those tinted glasses, with that thick, dark hair and chiseled features, he looked more like a Hollywood heartthrob than a … The thought was lost as a shock of lime green caught her eye. Why were those papers in his hands? A gasp tore from her throat. “Are you the one ripping these down?” The man flicked the stack with the back of his hand. “As a matter of fact,” he mumbled around a toothpick between his lips, “that’s exactly who I am.” It was the perfect clash – the ugly admittance of what he’d done, and the attractive features of his face. Everything about him boasted manly perfection. His well-defined jaw showed hints of a five-o’clock shadow, the scruff also casing that perfectly sculpted mouth. The impressive span of his chest and shoulders said he was disciplined too; muscles like that didn’t happen overnight. Jessie forced her mind back to the less-attractive parts of him. Mainly, the part that was trying to sabotage her upcoming event. She reached out to snatch the stack from his grip, but he yanked it from her reach, a wry smile pulling at his lips. She gasped once more, visions of grade school coming to mind. Mean Milton playing keep away after swiping her backpack. “You’re a bully,” she accused. “No, ma’am, I’m just doing my duty.” The sunglasses made it hard to dissect just what was going through his head. In the reflection, Jessie saw a ticked-off version of herself, looking somewhat small from the lowered angle. A hand went to her hip. She leaned on one foot. “Did you take even one teeny tiny second to read what’s on those flyers? Huh? Because if you did, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.” “Ma’am, I don’t care if you’re having a yard sale or warning the town that a UFO landed in your backyard. What you’re doing is illegal.” Fire roared in her chest. “Who are you?” The officer slowly lifted a hand, took hold of the sunglasses he wore, and pulled them off his face. Their eyes locked as he moved the toothpick from one corner of his lips to the next. “I’m the new sheriff in town.”   "One of the best books I've read... there were parts where I cried, laughed and cheered at the happily ever after." Ginny LaMere "...a sweet but rowdy romance with charming characters, a heartwarming story, and breathtaking moments too." Kindle Customer 3     Author Kimberly Krey Kimberly has always been a fan of good, clean romance, so she decided to specialize in writing 'Romance That's Clean without Losing the Steam'. Listen to a sample chapter of Dante's Gift

Excerpt Present day romance: The scent of turkey met her at Dom’s front door. For a moment, apprehension swept through her at the thought of helping in the kitchen. Then a handsome man stood before her, and she couldn’t wipe the foolish smile off her face. Instead of saying something stupid, she held out the wine. “In a holiday bag, no less,” Dom said, eyebrows raised. He stepped back to let her in, grabbed her hand, and spun her around to face him. “You look stunning.” “I just thought that the burlap would give it extra protection if I dropped it, and they only seemed to have holiday wine bags in stock and—” One finger covered her mouth. As his head slowly lowered, she could feel his breath on her face; heat raced through her core. By the time their lips touched, her legs had turned to jello; she clung to him for support. Gently pushing her toward the wall, he pressed his length against her and whispered, “I need to make you mine, legally, before I lose all control. You have no idea the affect you have on me, do you?” “I think that is the most romantic thing anyone has ever said to me,” she said breathless. “Kiss me like that again… please?” “I’d be happy to oblige if you tell me that isn’t my grandmother standing in the doorway watching us.” Katie looked over to see Antonia, a wide grin on her face, and quickly pushed on the hard chest that pinned her to the wall. She ran a hand through her hair as the blood rushed to her face. “Oh Nico, such good Italian blood in you. And not even any mistletoe out yet.” Antonia wiped her hands on her apron and waved to the young couple. “Come now, we have work to do before we play.” The two followed her in like reprimanded children who showed no remorse, holding hands and snickering. This is silly but it feels so good. Katie accepted the apron and as she pulled the straps behind her, strong hands covered hers. “Let me,” he whispered in her ear. “I’m good at tying knots.”   Excerpt WWII romance: The pilot with wheat-colored hair put his elbows on the counter and leaned toward her. “I could buy thirty loaves of bread at home for that much lettuce.” “But you are not home, soldier. You are here, in Benevento, and a sticky bun is 100 lire.” She meant to be rude but his soft brown gaze made her heart race as if she’d just chased Dante across the field. His smile went to his eyes, adding crinkles to the corners, and made her own lips turn up. “The cost of supplies is very expensive these days, as you know.” “So I’ve heard. Give me five,” he said with a wink. “Maybe I can sweet talk the captain into putting me back into a plane.” “Save your money, Ken. Your ears obviously ain’t got any better in the last ten minutes,” he answered, rubber-necking over the counter. “Get a load of that landing gear.” Dante growled again but this time showed sharp, white teeth. “I don’t think he likes you much, Bob.” “Well I don’t care for him, neither. Give me two of those, and we’ll get out of your hair.” The men paid for the rolls and walked outside. She headed into the kitchen when that quiet, deep voice stopped her. “I’d like to apologize for my friend. He’s not a bad Joe once you get to know him.” “I don’t think I care to,” she said without turning around. “It looks like I may be making regular trips through your town. Do you work here often?” His tone dripped like honey from a ladle and poured over her; she felt her body turn toward him even as her brain told her “no.” “My family owns it. I am here every day.” “So your father is Guido?” He had resumed his place at the counter, balanced on his elbows again, inviting her back without a word. She found herself leaning on the counter from the other side. “How do you know my father?” “The sign says Guido’s Café.” She laughed. “Yes, it does. So you are no private eye, eh?” He whistled then. “You’d make Betty Grable green with envy when you smile. It makes those blue eyes sparkle like a fresh-cut diamond. You should do that more often.” Her eyes lowered, embarrassed at the compliment and the image of the American pinup girl in a bathing suit. “You should go catch up with your friends.” “My name is Ken Lawrence,” he said and held out his hand. “Antonia Capriotti,” she replied and took his hand. A tingle shot down her center and curled her toes. “It is nice to meet you.”   Winner of the Golden Quill, Aspen Gold, and Heart of Excellence, Rone finalist for audio Reviewers Top Pick by Books and Benches "The ultimate Hallmark Channel romance, this is an excellent read for a bad day or a lazy afternoon." - InD'Tale Magazine "Truly romantic... a book that you will not be able to put down." - Books Are Love "Dante's Gift is a wonderfully poignant holiday romantic tale that intertwines two love stories..." - Jersey Girl Book Review   Author Aubrey Wynne Bestselling and award-winning author Aubrey Wynne resides in the Midwest with her husband, dogs, horses, mule and barn cats.   What Readers are Saying: A heartfelt romance with a powerful message about the sanctity of human life. If you've ever simply needed a friend, The Songs That Brought Me Back will resonate--and leave you thankful for the people in your life. -Taylor Dean, author of I’m With You and Chasing Fireflies.   Another remarkable read by Mylissa Demeyere. Ethan and Ainsley had me laughing and crying as they face their own demons and fall in love while doing it. This book adds even more depth as it confronts suicide head on. Suicide has become an epidemic that some are afraid to address; Demeyere brings it to light from both the victims and the survivors giving us insight on the struggles of so many. It does not disappoint and I, again, am excited to see what comes next from this talented writer. – Amazon Reviewer   A beautiful sequel to The Songs of You and Me that cleverly illustrates that there are always two sides to every story and that it is never too late for love to overcome any challenge. – Amazon Reviewer   “This poignant redemption story about second chances and forgiveness yanked my emotions all over the place. I cried, I yearned, I hoped. A beautiful story about what true love is and does.” - Charissa Stastny, author of Between Hope and the Highway and The Ruled Out Romance Series   Author Mylissa Demeyere Mylissa Demeyere was born in Belgium, and resides in the beautiful city of Ghent. Picture
Conrad Pinkerton, the Marquess of Kendal, despises society; the scheming, the guises, and the games they play. And yet, for his twin brother, he agrees to a temporary guise of his own, pretending to be his brother for a house party. Playing the fop should be easy, as long as he keeps everyone at a distance. But when he meets Jessica Standish, he wishes she didn’t think he was someone else.

Jessica Standish has never been considered worthy by the ton and now that she and her mother are penniless, the chances of a good match seem out of reach. Even the matchmaking schemes of the Countess Du’Breven seem doomed to failure. This house party will change nothing, though it’s hard not to hope when she sees Lord Ian again. The connection between them grows, though he seems so different from the man she remembers.
With his family name and fortune on the line, Conrad knows he should leave with his secret intact. After all, how can she truly love him if she thinks he’s someone else?
GOODREADS | AMAZON
My First Line:

"Bloo…" Conrad Pinkerton, the Marquess of Kendal, cursed to himself. He reined in his horse at the sight of several carriages lining the drive of the massive house. If he waited his turn in line, he would surely be caught in the approaching downpour, just visible in the distance. He moved his horse to the side, the stables his destination, passing ladies dressed in all their finery as they exited their carriages. Servants followed behind, loaded down with trunks and boxes of varying sizes. Probably filled with bonnets of great extravagance and even less taste.

"You really think you're too good for anyone, don't you?" Sara's voice shook. "That you're some kind of celebrity because National Geographic made you their cover boy? Well let me tell you something, Jack. I don't need a world seal of approval to help me sleep at night. I don't need looks or money to buy me a circle of friends, and I don't need some beach bum telling me what I am." Looking embarrassed, Jack dropped her hands. In a low voice, he said, "If that's who you think I am than you can leave." "Thank you," Sara shouted, "I will!" She flung the door open on the way. The planner was still in the middle of the hallway, a few pages hanging out of it. She gave it a vicious kick, and it smacked into the wall. "That's what I think about you and your stupid foundation," she shouted over her shoulder. She kicked it again and again until pages scattered everywhere. He was still watching from his office door, looking like he wanted to shove a sock in her mouth. All around the office, people sidled into range to see more. Satisfied she'd humiliated him, she took the stairs to the ground floor. She wanted to be exhausted when she walked out of the place. She wanted to feel so tired, she would never have the energy to come back.   “Turtle Soup is a wonderful sweet romance full of humor and heartbreak, not to mention descriptions so vivid you can almost smell the soup…” E.A. West @Goodreads.com “Clean romance, great stories, real people who you can relate to. Real problems. Real and raw emotions. I would recommend this book.” @Amazon.com “…Sweet and sassy romance. The characters were richly developed…” @Amazon.com     Author Danielle Thorne Danielle Thorne is the author of classic romance and adventure in several genres. About the Book

Picture
It has been decades since the family proclamation was first presented to members of the Church by President Gordon B. Hinckley. But despite the passage of time, the counsel provided in the family proclamation is ever more vital in these tumultuous last days. Creating Your Forever Family is an indispensable resource, providing practical application of the nine principles outlined in the family proclamation. Featuring counsel from Church leaders and stories of these principles in action, this book offers ways to incorporate these values into everyday life, from interview questions designed to help kids open up to the game night ideas to fun family dinner conversation starters. Families will be strengthened as each member gets involved in the discussions and applications. Now is the time to fortify families and truly embrace the principles of this great proclamation.

About the Author

Rachel A. Sullivan grew up on Anchorage, Alaska, and if she could sit down with you, she would love to tell you tales of her igloo home, pet polar bear, and dog team she mushed to school across the frozen tundra.  Unfortunately none of those stories would be true; she lived in a house, had a pet dog, and rode the school bus across icy but paved streets.

Rachel holds a BA in English from BYU with a minor in marriage, family, and human development.  She served in the Virginia Richmond Mission, where she fell in love with Southern people, Southern food, and the scriptures.  Rachel is passionate about teaching and testifying of the gospel of Jesus Christ to people of all ages.

Rachel is married to her sweetheart, Cameron, and they are the parents of four children.  Rachel tries to embrace as much of the joyful messiness of family life as she can; when life becomes too much, she pulls out her karaoke machine for a bit of musical therapy.

Review

Author Rachel A. Sullivan has written a book that is deep, spiritually uplifting, and inspirational.  In each chapter of this book a different topic and principle from the Family Proclamation is discussed, along with quotes, stories, and insights that can realistically be applied to everyday life.  The topics in this book are great for family discussion time such as Family Home Evening, meal time, or special time on the Sabbath.  This is a book that will bring thought provoking discussion time and cause a change for the better within the family unit.  Although an LDS faith based book, it can be used and applied to all religiously inclined families.
