The Fruitcake Challenge (The Christy Lumber Camp Series #1) (Christmas Traditions #3) by Carrie Fancett Pagels

9/7/2015

About the Book

When new lumberjack, Tom Jeffries, tells the camp cook, Jo Christy, that he’ll marry her if she can make a fruitcake, “as good as the one my mother makes,” she rises to the occasion. After all, he’s the handsomest, smartest, and strongest axman her camp-boss father has ever had in his camp—and the cockiest. And she intends to bring this lumberjack down a notch or three by refusing his proposal. The fruitcake wars are on!

About the Author

Picture
Former “Yooper” Carrie Fancett Pagels writes Christian historical romances about overcoming. She grew up in Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where many of her stories are set. Possessed with an overactive imagination, that wasn't "cured" by twenty-five years as a psychologist, she loves bringing characters to life. Carrie and her family reside in Virginia’s Historic Triangle, which is perfect for her fascination with history. Carrie enjoys reading, traveling,
baking, and beading—but not all at the same time!

Love the concept of this book -- to try to 'win', then turn down the prize! I like this timeframe in history and can't imagine living in a lumberjack camp! Thanks for the review -- I'm very interested in this story!

I had SO MUCH FUN writing this story, Susan! This was unlike anything I'd written yet! My mom lived in a lumber camp as had my grandfather and my great-grandparents. I think it had its challenges--but also its joys! Blessings!

Susan, thanks so much for stopping by and entering the giveaway. :) I agree. I cannot imagine what it would be like to live in a lumberjack camp either. That is what stories and the imagination are for. Best of luck in the giveaway! :)

Tom Jeffries is very much like a certain Jeffrey I know, Ladette! So I can relate! But I liked Jeff right from the beginning unlike Jo and Tom! Best wishes!

My great aunt ran a lumber camp in northern Minnesota during the Depression. Her husband was disabled, and Jess managed everything, even though she was just a tiny women among a tall forest of lumberjacks. I love the north woods, and I love the setting of this book!

Hey Sandy, I'd still encourage you to write this story! My grandfather also ran his camp, in Michigan, during the Great Depression. Thank God he had some kind of work he could do. I love the north woods and miss them greatly! Blessings!
