Tess has lovingly supported her boyfriend James the past three years while he attended law school, with the promise that when he graduates they will get married.  She has ran errands for him and allowed him plenty of time to fulfill school obligations.  James’s parents are throwing a huge graduation party for him and he has hinted to Tess that he a special surprise for the party.  At the party though, Tess is shocked when James announces he is taking a prestige internship in New York, far away from where they now live.  Feeling emotional and humiliated, Tess leaves the party early.  Once back at the apartment that she shares with her sister, Hope, Tess comes up with the idea to go visit her mother in California.  After making arrangements, she hopes in her car and drives all night to go be with her mom and so they can also discuss James’s bad behavior.  Tess arrives at her mom’s way too early in the morning to ring the bell.  So she goes to the beach and turns on her phone to discover a dozen or so missed calls, a few phone messages, and several texts, all from James.  After turning her phone back off Tess hears James calling her name.  Has he really followed her to California?  Can they make up and solve their differences, or will James just break her heart again?

Dancing at the Flea Market by Heather Justesen

The Best Laid Plans by Sarah M. Eden
As a kid, Madison’s dad walked out on her mom and her.  Ever since, her mom’s relationships with men have been rocky and they never last and Madison has developed a fear of people leaving her.  Now her mom has a new boyfriend, Grant, that is supposedly the absolute very best.  So, while Madison’s friends go on vacation to Cancún, she heads home to once again check on her mom and her new boyfriend.  The only problem is her mom’s new boyfriend is her latest ex-boyfriend’s uncle.  This reawakens her old feelings for ex-boyfriend, Derek, but she doesn’t want to face them.  Two years ago she left him because of her fear that he would leave her first.  Now Derek wants to get back together with her.  Will Madison run away like last time, or will she confront her fears and move back home to be with Derek?

Since graduating from high school, Gemma has looked about the same.  Right before a weekend getaway with some high school friends, Gemma cuts and dyes her hair to try to get her boyfriend’s attention.  But not only does he not really like the change, he breaks up with her.  For the past month, Gemma felt like her relationship with Randy had been off and the break-up helped prove that.  Once on vacation, it is just Gemma, Liz, and Drew.  The girls start teasing Drew when he states that he currently isn’t dating anyone and it doesn’t help when Liz tells Gemma that maybe Drew is waiting for her.  Will Drew and Gemma end up getting together, or will the unexpected re-appearance of Gemma’s old boyfriend, Randy, throw a wrench into their new found relationship?

The Science of Sentiment by Aubrey Mace
Science and art teacher Rose is still smarting from the breakup with her boyfriend, Kevin a year ago.  Wanting a weekend away from everything, Rose goes up into the mountains to her Grandfather’s cabin, only to find Kevin there.  Although they argue, but Rose ends up staying.  They have a good time together, even when they don’t always agree.  Will they be able to overcome their differences and discuss what happened in their relationship a year ago, or will their relationship go downhill from here?

Review

Authors Josie S. Kilpack, Annette Lyon, Heather Justesen, Sarah M. Eden, Heather B. Moore, and Aubrey Mace have teamed up to create a fun and romantic spring vacation novella collection.  Each story is filled with characters that readers will fall in love with as they work through complicated or maybe not so complicated romantic relationships.  Each author has a similar, but unique style of writing from the others in this novella collection.  I would recommend this novel to readers that want to get away and go on a “spring vacation” into the wonderful world of the Spring Vacation Collection.
