Summary After a pirate raid sinks the steamboat Emma Chambers and her brother Ryan are on, they become stranded in Presque Isle port. Ryan quickly finds work, while Emma, on the other hand, can neither find work nor a place to stay. But an unlikely situation presents itself when recently widowed lighthouse keeper, Patrick Garraty asks if Emma will become his wife to take care of his motherless young son, Josiah and so he can better take care of lighthouse duties without child interference. Emma quickly agrees to the situation. At the end of the wedding ceremony, Emma allows Patrick to kiss her, stirring feelings she had never felt before. Will these stirrings turn to love as Emma comes to better know Patrick and Josiah, or will secrets from Patrick’s past cause a rift to come between them?
Review
Award-winning and bestselling author of inspirational historical fiction, author Jody Hedlund has shaped a story that will cause readers to fall in love with from page one. Jody’s rich characters, blended with history, come together crafting an inspiring and heart-touching novel. Readers’ can easily relate to Emma’s longing for love and to have a home of her own. This book is hard to put down as readers will want to know how everything works out between Patrick and Emma. This novel can be read as a stand-alone even though it is part of a series. I would recommend this novel to historical-romance fiction and Christian fiction readers. This novel has just the right amount of history and romance to excite readers and have them looking forward to other novels by Jody.
