About the Author

​Marre holds both an associate and bachelor degree in human services and is currently working on her master’s of social work degree.  She has received numerous volunteer awards for her community service.  Marre most recently worked as a probation officer for the state of Alaska. Prior to being a PO, she worked as an advocate and crisis intervention coordinator for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
 
Marre is originally from Salem, Indiana and currently lives in Wasilla, Alaska.  She enjoys spending time with her husband at their cabin in Kasilof and hanging out with her three granddaughters.

My name is Kelly Marre. I am a former probation officer, and mother of three. My oldest son, Logan, passed away from complications following a bone marrow transplant in 1998. In 2014, I was diagnosed with leukemia and also had to have a transplant. I have not been well enough to work since my transplant, so I decided to write a story about the experiences my son and I had. I am currently enrolled in an online program for my master’s in social work. I love using my experiences to help others.
