About the BookLogan was only nine when he was diagnosed with leukemia. The effects of his battle and untimely passing have caused shear grief to ripple through the Marre’s emotions each day. Sixteen years after Logan succumbed to the disease, his mother—Kelly Marre—was delivered the same diagnosis. In this inspiring memoir, Kelly courageously welcomes readers into the dark seasons of grief and pain she experienced as a mother. Killing Leuk: The Courageous Journey of Faith of a Mother and Son Who Both Battled Leukemia is one woman’s battle to move forward and continue living when so much of her life has been taken from her. Through the loss of her son, her own diagnosis, chemotherapy, and a stem cell transplant, she continues to take steps forward. Kelly fights with everything she has to finally kill “Leuk,” a shortened form of the name of her ruthless disease. Killing Leuk reopens wounds not quite healed in order to help others who may be experiencing the same sorrow. Survival through the anguish of illness and loss may seem impossible, but Kelly Marre compassionately shares her own story to provide you with a light of hope amid darkness. About the AuthorMarre holds both an associate and bachelor degree in human services and is currently working on her master’s of social work degree. She has received numerous volunteer awards for her community service. Marre most recently worked as a probation officer for the state of Alaska. Guest Post with the AuthorMy name is Kelly Marre. I am a former probation officer, and mother of three. My oldest son, Logan, passed away from complications following a bone marrow transplant in 1998. In 2014, I was diagnosed with leukemia and also had to have a transplant. I have not been well enough to work since my transplant, so I decided to write a story about the experiences my son and I had. I am currently enrolled in an online program for my master’s in social work. I love using my experiences to help others. My book can be found at Amazon under the title of “Killing Leuk”. The book is $14.95 and $1 from each book is divided amongst four charities- Make-A-Wish, Ronald McDonald House, Be the Match, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It’s really a story of perseverance, hope, and faith. It’s the story of how I survived the worst thing- losing a child and still kept my faith and trust that everything was going to be okay. It’s a story of incredible love and support from my family and community. It’s a story written to honor my son who fought so hard and how he inspires me to fight just as hard. I hope everyone who reads it is blessed and filled with hope.
