About the Book

Picture
How would you live if you knew the day you'd die?

Parvin Blackwater has wasted her life. At only seventeen, she has one year left according to the Clock by her bedside.

In a last-ditch effort to make a difference, she tries to rescue Radicals from the crooked justice system. But when the authorities find out about her illegal activity, they cast her through the Wall -- her people's death sentence.

What she finds on the other side about the world, about eternity, and about herself changes Parvin forever and might just save her people. But her Clock is running out.

Review

Nadine has written a fascinating and captivating dystopian adventure novel that teens will absolutely love.  From page one, Nadine captures the attention of her readers, pulling them into the life of Parvin Blackwater, a teenager that is in the last year of her life.  With her clock ticking down to the day she will die, Parvine wants to do something that people will remember her by so she’s not just another “empty numbers” person.  This brilliantly written story is of Parvin’s adventure once she is caught sharing her clock with her brother and is cast to the other side of wall.  Parvine just might learn how to survive and go back and save her people.  I would recommend this somewhat fast paced science fiction story to readers that enjoy teen speculative, dystopian, adventure novels.

Review

Jessilyn Stewart Peaslee has written another charming retelling of the story of Cinderella.  This time it is from the point of Ella Blackeley’s friend, Will, a brilliant stable hand that once worked for Ella’s father and now works for the royal family.  Yet again Jessilyn will capture the heart and attention of her readers with this delightful and magical retelling and twist on one of my all-time favorite fairytales.  This is a story filled with a fantastic story and magnificent characters that readers will love.  I would recommend this novel to teens that enjoy fairytales and romance.

Review

I have always favored Cinderella tales and retellings and Jessilyn Stewart Peaslee has written a splendid and delightful twist on this beautiful story.  As always there is the evil step-mother and step-sisters and Ella must take care of them, even when they are so cruel to her that she can hardly stand it.  Throughout the story, you will fall in love with Ella Blakeley’s determination and perseverance to survive and press on as she discovers her own self-worth.  The many excellent characters in this story also help flush out this wonderful and magical tale.  I would recommend this novel to teens that enjoy romance and fairytales.
